Rescue Me ID: 17-01-06-00524Abbie Sue (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

We had adopted 'Abbie' when she was just about 4 months old. She is now almost 7 years old. She is very active, but anxious. We have 2 little girls (4 year old and a 9month old) and we are scared of her biting them. She will attack our other dog also. She has been on Prozac and it seemed to help but still will attack our other dog at times (gets territorial). I am to the point where we need to find another place for her. I absolutely hate to get rid of her, but I fear that she might bite my kids and don't want her to just live in a cage. She would great in a home with no other pets or kids. Loves to play fetch and play outside. She loves to ... (Read More)lay on your lap. She is also puppy pad trained. It kills me to have to get rid of her, but I have to watch for the safety of my kids and other dog. She is very sweet and loves attention when she is the only one around. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-08-00671Sporty (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sporty was found on the streets 4 years ago. We took him in but it was obvious he had been in a abusive/neglected situation. He can be aggressive to strangers and visitors. He does not do well with kids. We love him and wanted this to work but after almost 4 years years he still exhibits aggressive behavior and recently bit my daughter resulting in stitches. He could be a good dog in a different environment and with someone who had more time to work with him. If we can not find a home soon he will be euthanized.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Rat Terrier in Indiana
Rat Terrier Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Rat Terrier is a small breed of hunting dog also sometimes known as a Feist. Rat Terriers are vivacious, playful, and bold. This breed is great with children. Adult Rat Terriers adapt well to adoption. Rat Terriers are very smart and trainable. This breed can live in an apartment but needs plenty of vigorous exercise each day. Rat Terriers enjoy romping in a fenced yard, but because they are enthusiastic diggers, fences should be buried or reinforced around the base.
