Rescue Me ID: 15-02-28-00410Dottie (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Dottie has had quite a sad life, she was given to a shelter early in life, and at age 3 was adopted by a nice couple. Unfortunately 3 yrs ago she lost her male owner and 1 yr. ago lost her female owner. We took her in but it's not the appropriate fit for our house. She's sweet but needs lots of training, time and commitment due to years of lack of structure and discipline. Seeking a better, appropriate life for this sweetheart.

Animal ID: 1457Bandit (male)

Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Handsome Bandit is an 18-lb. 6-year-old cuddle buddy, who may not have been socialized or treated kindly in the past. Now he is looking for someone to patiently help him learn that the world doesn't have to be so scary and that most people really are kind, after all. Poor Bandit may have been hit in the past because he has a very strong startle reflex and requires gentle introductions to new people and things. Not surprisingly he can nip at the ankles of new folks who seem threatening, mostly when they make sudden moves or stand up over him quickly. In his foster home, he has been receiving lots of exposure to company, and after a few short ... (Read More)visits, he does warm up to his guests. He is also completely comfortable with quick movements from his foster mom, which is a strong sign that he will be fine once he is acclimated to his new family. In addition, he is very gentle with his foster mom's 3-year-old niece, who knows how to behave towards dogs (no pulling, etc.). Even when she runs around playing in the yard, he doesn't seem scared of her at all. Another trait that seems related to his past is his tendency to bark when he is scared, as well as when he wants to play. Bandit's foster mom is working with him in this area, too, and he is making progress in Project 'Bark Reduction,' in which he is learning to stop barking on command. He is also learning to be nice to strange new pieces of equipment, like snow shovels and vacuum cleaners. In fact, Bandit loves to learn and play training games, and as he has learned new things, he has become less fearful of things that threatened him in the past. Bandit loves to walk or run on leash, and he gets at least three walks a day. He also loves running alongside his foster mom when she bikes. He will usually come when called, although he is such a devoted hunter that if he is 'on duty' (patiently waiting to ensure that the yard is clear of any intruding wildlife), it may take shaking the treat canister to get his attention. When not hunting, Bandit is usually found cuddled up in a warm blanket on the back of the couch or on his foster mom's lap. He loves to sleep in the 'human bed' and while not a fan of his crate, he will stay there while his foster mom is at work. Bandit never pees in the house but may poop indoors if you miss his signals requesting to be let outside. He does fine with the two other mature dogs in his foster home, although he will sometimes growl if they walk on him (who wouldn't?) and will chase after them when they chase a ball, though he has no interest in the ball itself. This may appear somewhat aggressive, but he means no harm to his playmates. Any other dogs in his new home should be very calm and sedate and not react negatively if he should do this to them. At heart, Bandit is truly a gentle soul who is destined to become a faithful soulmate to a patient and loving family. He just needs someone to give him that chance. To see more pictures of Bandit, go to his online album at http://imageevent.com/newrattitude/bandito . ========================================================================================If you are interested in adopting Bandit, please go to New Rattitude's website at http://www.NewRattitude.org/adopt.htm, where there is detailed information and a link to our adoption application. Typical of any young dog, Mickey is looking for someone with the time and energy to train and exercise a young dog. He loves walks, but needs multiple walks a day to perfect his housebreaking.
