Animal ID: 2012Clara (female)

Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Darling Clara really knows how to make a person feel special. Every time you come home, she'll greet you with a wagging tail and a special dance known only to her breed--the Rat Terrier circle dance of delight. A cheerful girl, who is not quite 8 years old, Clara loves to be with her humans, and at 15 lbs., she's just the right size for cuddling. Clara is the perfect blend of athlete and couch potato. She will enthusiastically go for a walk, nose to the ground, ears perked, and ever so polite on her leash. She also enjoys romping with other playful dogs, but she seems to consider cats to be toys only good for chasing and so might be too much ... (Read More)for all but the most dog-savvy cats. When it's time to relax, she'll be more than happy to chill with you on the couch. She's good about sharing precious lap and sofa real estate with her 4-year-old human foster brother and is patient with him even when he forgets his manners. Sometimes, however, she is not quite as generous towards her canine foster siblings, but being eager to please, she will share when you remind her. While she sleeps in a crate at night, she's not particularly eager to do so and will tell you this with her very own unique vocalizations. She is not a barker unless something really exciting happens, but she almost 'talks,' similar to the way some Huskies do. Clara is mostly house-trained and has had very few accidents in her foster home. She does best when taken out on a leash to relieve herself. We have it on good authority that Clara will be adding several more circles to her dance of delight when she finds her forever home. Isn't that something you'd like to see? Rescue Me ID: 17-10-17-00095Cooper--$99! (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ok, so he is 12 years old but don't let that fool you-Cooper has a lot of vim and vigor! What a perfect combination, the spunk to keep us and go for walks and be active with his family, but the maturity to not be over the top exuberant. Cooper likes the finer things in life whether it be a brisk walk in the crisp winter air or a warm nap on a snuggly blanket, and he is not slouch when it comes time for a nice dinner! Cooper was given up by his family due to his seasonal allergies. Apparently they flare up a little in the fall and spring. He gets a little itchy but nothing to serious. We gave him a soothing bath and if it gets bad a little ... (Read More)benadryl helps. We have many dogs with similar issues, my own bulldog is 10 x worse, thats a bulldog for you. He is a happy guy, loves his people and is doing well with the other dogs. At first he was not too happy about the rowdiness of others but has learned to accept it. He will do well in a more peaceful home than ours. He probably had a nice quiet life and does appreciate quiet times. His adoption fee is $99. Please email Kristine at joysparrpows@gmail.com. (Less)

Animal ID: 15-01-05-00483Doug and Sue (male)

Rat Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Doug and Susan are a pair of adorable yet shy rat terrier siblings looking for a loving guardian. We don't what kind of situation Doug and Susan came from, but they are much more trusting of other dogs than they are of people. Doug is nine pounds and Susan is only seven pounds. They were turned into Chicago Animal Care and Control by their family. I'm assuming the family had a lot of dogs and didn't spend much time socialized them with people. So, Doug and Susan are looking for a patient dog-lover to take them under their wing for training to boost their confidence and a lot of love. They groom each other, snuggle together, and never let ... (Read More)each other out of view. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-02-00469Trixie (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

All Trixie wants for Christmas is a real home who will love and care for her forever! Trixie was dumped with her mom and siblings on a rural road and then in a no kill very rural shelter for a year with no socializing. She is shy of strangers, better in a home without children not because she's bad but because she wouldn't know how to act around them. Once she adjusted to being handled she was very easy to leash train, crate train and all around did great and has a more confident energetic personality then her 2 sisters. She tends to bark at things when she is outside or hears something, hunting dog personality. Quite when crated and in the ... (Read More)house, but would probably bark at things outside a window if she could see something. She was intimidated by our bossy cat, current on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She was heartworm negative when tested last year and has been on preventative. She's good with the dogs she is with but will be bossy with them if she can get away with it. She is dominant over her very shy, submissive sister. She really doesn't know any commands but would love someone who would like to teach her some fun tricks, and that there are other great people out there besides us. She is now almost 2 years old and weighs 28 pounds. Vet's phone number you use currently or in the past is required to adopt for a reference. We have 30 rescued dogs of all sizes all praying for a real home! Please do not consider a dog for Christmas unless you want a dog as a family member for its whole life. (Less)
