|Rescue Me ID: 17-06-24-00288Emmett (male)|
Sweet, soulful Emmett already loves you. He doesn't know you, but he loves you! Emmett loves everyone, and he's really looking for the special person or family to love him back. Emmett is a 3 year old Rat Terrier/Beagle mix who came to ACL as a stray. He's a sensitive guy who loves attention, toys, cuddles, and walks. He has a sprightly pep in his step whenever he's out and about! He runs fast, plays fast, and then snoozes nice and slow. Emmett is an emotional dog who gets vocal when he wants your attention - that's the beagle in him! He does well with other dogs, though we don't know how he feels about cats. Because he's a gentle dog, he'd prefer gentle kids of any age. Emmett will make a wonderful addition to a home that wants to add more love and more fun - he has plenty to spare! (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 17-06-17-00091Charles (male)|
DOB 4/21/17 As of 6/19/17 3.1 lbs Our little Charles, is a little spitfire! He was rescued with his mother, when he was only 3 weeks old, as an only child. At only 3.1 lbs at 8 weeks old, he will be a small dog. Due to his strong personality and size, we are recommending no young children. Being raised with other dogs in his foster home, he has a lot of confidence around them, no matter how big they are. They were rescued from a house with lots of Beagles, so we believe he might be part Beagle, and his mom looks like a rat terrier. He will need someone home most of the day to work on housebreaking, leash training, and other basic puppy training. If you would like to meet this tiny pup, please fill out an application to see if you are a match! A JOURNEY HOME DOES NOT DO OUT-OF-STATE ADOPTIONS ON UNALTERED PUPPIES. PLEASE READ THE ADOPTION PROCESS BELOW BELOW, BEFORE SENDING AN INQUIRY. THANK YOU! Thank you for your interest in adopting ! A Journey Home is a 501c3, all foster/volunteer based rescue. Our rescues are living with families in their homes. We do not have a shelter. If you are interested in adopting, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request an application. After your application has been received and given a preliminary approval, you will be contacted by an adoption coordinator who will conduct a phone interview. Final approval will be granted following a successful meet and greet with the entire family. A Journey Home does not do out-of-state adoptions on unaltered puppies. Spay/neuter surgery is not done on puppies under 6 months of age. If adopting a puppy under the age of 6 months, we require that the adopter schedules the spay/neuter at our participating vet clinic when age appropriate. Our standard adoption fee is $300, payable by cash or check. The fee includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, a free vet visit at one of our participating clinics, and micro-chipping. First time pet owners will be required to sign up for a puppy/training class at a place of their choice. There will be an additional $50 added to your adoption fee, which will be refunded to you upon proof the class was completed. Please note that breed and size are our best guesses, while ages are estimated by our vets and are not guaranteed. To follow and like us, please go to https://www.facebook.com/ajourneyhomedogrescue/ PLEASE consider becoming a foster home, and find out how rewarding it can be! A Journey Home provides basic needs, including medical expenses at our participating clinics located in Wheaton, Naperville, and Geneva. You supply the love! High kill shelters are overcrowded with dogs and puppies that need our help. More fosters on our team means we can save more lives! |Animal ID: 15-01-05-00483Doug and Sue (male)|
Doug and Susan are a pair of adorable yet shy rat terrier siblings looking for a loving guardian. We don't what kind of situation Doug and Susan came from, but they are much more trusting of other dogs than they are of people. Doug is nine pounds and Susan is only seven pounds. They were turned into Chicago Animal Care and Control by their family. I'm assuming the family had a lot of dogs and didn't spend much time socialized them with people. So, Doug and Susan are looking for a patient dog-lover to take them under their wing for training to boost their confidence and a lot of love. They groom each other, snuggle together, and never let each other out of view. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 14-12-02-00469Trixie (female)|
All Trixie wants for Christmas is a real home who will love and care for her forever! Trixie was dumped with her mom and siblings on a rural road and then in a no kill very rural shelter for a year with no socializing. She is shy of strangers, better in a home without children not because she's bad but because she wouldn't know how to act around them. Once she adjusted to being handled she was very easy to leash train, crate train and all around did great and has a more confident energetic personality then her 2 sisters. She tends to bark at things when she is outside or hears something, hunting dog personality. Quite when crated and in the house, but would probably bark at things outside a window if she could see something. She was intimidated by our bossy cat, current on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She was heartworm negative when tested last year and has been on preventative. She's good with the dogs she is with but will be bossy with them if she can get away with it. She is dominant over her very shy, submissive sister. She really doesn't know any commands but would love someone who would like to teach her some fun tricks, and that there are other great people out there besides us. She is now almost 2 years old and weighs 28 pounds. Vet's phone number you use currently or in the past is required to adopt for a reference. We have 30 rescued dogs of all sizes all praying for a real home! Please do not consider a dog for Christmas unless you want a dog as a family member for its whole life. (Less)

Rat Terrier Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Rat Terrier is a small breed of hunting dog also sometimes known as a Feist. Rat Terriers are vivacious, playful, and bold. This breed is great with children. Adult Rat Terriers adapt well to adoption. Rat Terriers are very smart and trainable. This breed can live in an apartment but needs plenty of vigorous exercise each day. Rat Terriers enjoy romping in a fenced yard, but because they are enthusiastic diggers, fences should be buried or reinforced around the base.
