Meet Autumn! DOB 9/26/2016 Rat Terrier/Hound/Chihuahua??? mix Female Currently 7 lbs. Autumn and her 3 siblings were born in a high kill shelter in Alabama. Luckily, their family was rescued and transported to safety in Illinois when they were 2 weeks old. Since then they have been socialized with people, dogs and cats and they are your typical, happy, tail wagging puppies! This litter (Pumpkin, Autumn, Cider and Taffy Apple) have picked up quickly on paper training. Mom is 15 lbs so we expect they will be no more than 20 - 25 lbs full grown. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of ... (Read More)adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. Animal ID: 1827Lou Lou (female)

Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lou Lou is a 2-year-old 12-lb. little lady, who is thinking about what she'd like to be in the future. Possessing so many talents, she has a choice of doggy 'careers' ahead of her. With her compact, athletic build and lots of energy, she jumps effortlessly over obstacles and would make an awesome agility dog. (In addition, she's very teachable and already knows sit and lie down.) Lou Lou is also mulling over a future as a therapy dog because she is exceptionally patient and eager to please. She's quite content to let others take a leadership role. You should see how nicely she gets along with her 3-year-old human foster brother and her four ... (Read More)canine foster siblings (giving a slight preference to the boys). She would love to live in a home with at least one other playful dog. Finally, Lou Lou has such a strong desire to be with people that she could concentrate on a career as a constant companion to someone who is home most of the time and wants an active canine buddy. In fact, she really doesn't like to be outside without her person (she will bark heartily to let you know her displeasure) and would love to go walking on leash with you to take care of her exercise and potty needs. In addition, she is not a fan of the crate, but she is trying to learn to tolerate it without complaint and to keep it clean. She's more comfortable there when she has a fellow canine crated next to her. Overall, she's happier being loose in the house and free to snuggle with her person on the couch and get a belly rub, and she'll appreciate your monitoring her activities, as she is still learning about the luxuries of living in a home, such as pottying outside (though she's doing well when watched consistently). No matter what tomorrow holds in store for Lou Lou, she's certain of one thing--as long as it includes a loving forever home, she's going to be one happy pup! Lou Lou's online photo album at http://imageevent.com/newrattitude/loulou has more pictures of this sweet girl with the promising future. ========================================================================================If you are interested in adopting Lou Lou, please go to New Rattitude's web site at http://www.NewRattitude.org/adopt.htm where there is detailed information and a link to our adoption application. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-21-00559Pickle (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Pickle is an adorable, playful, spunky and punky, two-year-old, 12-pound, male, tri-color rat terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. He loves other dogs and loves to play and cuddle, but Pickle can be stubborn and protective. For that reason he would do best in a home without children. And, due to his terrier nature, he is best in a home without cats. Pickle is wonderful on walks and in any situation outside the home. However, inside the home, he is extremely protective of his home and family. So, he is looking for an experienced terrier-lover, who can keep Pickle out of harm's way when visitors come over. Pickle's adoption fee of ... (Read More)$300 benefits the rescued pets of Tails of Hope. He is healthy, neutered, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested, and on monthly heartworm preventative. He is currently at the Tails of Hope Shelter in Highland Park, Illinois. To meet and possibly adopt Pickle, please fill in the adoption application at: http://tailsofhope.org/availabledogs.html and follow up by contacting tailsofhope@aol.com or 847-557-9554. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-09-00229Isaac (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Handsome, charming Isaac is a stealth operator - he'll steal your hearth without you noticing! He's a 7 year old American Eskimo/terrier supermutt who arrived at ACL as a stray. He was very worried and unsure when he first arrived, and he didn't want to make friends. We knew it was an act, though, and soon found that he's a loyal, loving, tolerant dog who adores being with his people. He takes a little bit of patience to warm up to new people, but when you're in with Isaac, you're IN! His trust once earned is a permanent gift. Isaac likes dogs his size or smaller (he's about 25 pounds), and he'd enjoy being a solo dog OR a companion to an ... (Read More)already existing pet. He's a persnickety little terrier, so he'd do best with adopters 16 and up. Isaac's dream is to be the loyal companion to a quiet home who just wants a dog to go for short walks, have lots of pet time, and share their lives with. If Isaac could be the missing piece you've been looking for, please email Gabrielle at caninemanager@animalcareleague.org to schedule a meet! (Less)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We hope you like your sweets with a dash of tabasco, because that's Sammy in a nut shell! This absolutely adorable 5 year old Rat Terrier/Chihuahua is a perfect blend of sugar and spice. He arrived at ACL as a very frightened stray, but Sammy has set about winning all our hearts! He's an affectionate, low-key, social little guy who bonds tightly and loves to be cuddled. He'd really love a home with one or two people that want a constant companion to dote upon. Like many of his breed, Sammy tends to get feisty when he's frightened or unsure - it's hard to be a little squirt in a big world! For that reason, Sammy would do best in a home with ... (Read More)small dog experience. If you know what little chichis are like, you'll recognize Sammy's bluster for what it is - nerves. Once Sammy trusts you, he's your for life. He'll do best in an adult home, possibly with another small dog or even cat to hang out with. He'd do fine as an only dog, too, as long as you take him for walks, give him lots of cuddle time, and let him hide under a pillow - his favorite place to be! If you'd like to meet Sammy in person, please email Gabrielle at caninemanager@animalcareleague.org. (Less)

Rat Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Doug and Susan are a pair of adorable yet shy rat terrier siblings looking for a loving guardian. We don't what kind of situation Doug and Susan came from, but they are much more trusting of other dogs than they are of people. Doug is nine pounds and Susan is only seven pounds. They were turned into Chicago Animal Care and Control by their family. I'm assuming the family had a lot of dogs and didn't spend much time socialized them with people. So, Doug and Susan are looking for a patient dog-lover to take them under their wing for training to boost their confidence and a lot of love. They groom each other, snuggle together, and never let ... (Read More)each other out of view. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-02-00469Trixie (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

All Trixie wants for Christmas is a real home who will love and care for her forever! Trixie was dumped with her mom and siblings on a rural road and then in a no kill very rural shelter for a year with no socializing. She is shy of strangers, better in a home without children not because she's bad but because she wouldn't know how to act around them. Once she adjusted to being handled she was very easy to leash train, crate train and all around did great and has a more confident energetic personality then her 2 sisters. She tends to bark at things when she is outside or hears something, hunting dog personality. Quite when crated and in the ... (Read More)house, but would probably bark at things outside a window if she could see something. She was intimidated by our bossy cat, current on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She was heartworm negative when tested last year and has been on preventative. She's good with the dogs she is with but will be bossy with them if she can get away with it. She is dominant over her very shy, submissive sister. She really doesn't know any commands but would love someone who would like to teach her some fun tricks, and that there are other great people out there besides us. She is now almost 2 years old and weighs 28 pounds. Vet's phone number you use currently or in the past is required to adopt for a reference. We have 30 rescued dogs of all sizes all praying for a real home! Please do not consider a dog for Christmas unless you want a dog as a family member for its whole life. (Less)
