Lucas is a sweet, active and fun seven-year-old, 10-pound, male Chihuahua/Rat Terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. Lucas was left at Chicago Animal Care and Control when his family moved to a no-pets apartment. He gets along beautifully with dogs of all shapes and sizes, but can certainly live happily as the one and only dog in the home. While he currently lives in a foster home with multiple dogs and cats, he tends to chase the cats for fun. I think Lucas looks older than he actually is, but his activity level makes him seem much younger. Lucas bonds very closely with his people and is very loving. He sleeps in bed with his family ... (Read More)or on the couch with you. He just loves being a lap dog. He is housebroken, not at all destructive and has never been crated since his days at the pound. Lucas enjoys carrying his stuffed animals around the house with him. He loves walks and car rides and when left alone at home tends to bark for a few minutes when you leave, so he may be better in a house than in an apartment or condo. He also enjoys being dressed up in sweaters or wrapping himself up in a blanket for his naps. He is very healthy, neutered, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and heartworm-tested. To meet and possibly adopt Lucas, please contact Jill at dottysummers@gmail.com or 407-415-0549. He is being fostered in Chicago. His adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescued pets of Famous Fido. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Dottie has had quite a sad life, she was given to a shelter early in life, and at age 3 was adopted by a nice couple. Unfortunately 3 yrs ago she lost her male owner and 1 yr. ago lost her female owner. We took her in but it's not the appropriate fit for our house. She's sweet and loves to cuddle but needs some training, time and commitment due to years of lack of structure and discipline. Seeking a better, appropriate life for this sweetheart.

Adopt Hobbes the Border Collie/Rat Terrier-Mix Hobbes is an extremely sweet, high-energy, cuddly and loving, 29-pound, 22-month-old, male Border Collie/Rat Terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. When you first meet adorable little Hobbes, he seems a little nervous. The funny thing is, he really loves everyone, he just needs to build his confidence in a quiet and loving home. He is full of kisses and tail wags for everyone. Sadly, he was found stray in the Englewood neighborhood where children were beating him with sticks. Police officers intervened and brought him to Chicago Animal Care and Control. When his original family neglected ... (Read More)to claim him, he was transferred to Rain Dog Rescue. Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

All Dolly wants for Christmas is a real home who will love and care for her forever! Dolly was dumped with her mom and siblings on a rural road and then in a no kill very rural shelter for a year with no socializing. She is very shy of strangers, better in a home without children not because she's bad but because she wouldn't know how to act around them and they are scary. Once she adjusted to being handled she was very easy to leash train, crate train and all around did great with us. She has a much more submissive personality then her 2 sisters and is fearful with change. She loves attention once she knows someone and would be great for a ... (Read More)person or couple who may go for walks but are more homebody types. She was intimidated by our bossy cat, and is submissive with all the other dogs. She current on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She was heartworm negative when tested last year and has been on preventative. She really doesn't know any commands but would love someone who would like to teach her some fun tricks, or just sit and pet her, and that there are other great people out there besides us. She is now almost 2 years old and weighs 28 pounds. Vet's phone number you use currently or in the past is required to adopt for a reference. Animal ID: 1457Bandit (male)

Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Handsome Bandit is an 18-lb. 6-year-old cuddle buddy who is looking for someone to patiently help him learn that the world doesn't have to be so scary and that most people really are kind, after all. Poor Bandit has a very strong startle reflex, possibly as a result of having been hit in his past, so he requires gentle introductions to new people and things. Not surprisingly he can nip at the ankles of new folks who seem threatening, mostly when they make sudden moves or stand up over him quickly. Since he has received lots of exposure to company in his foster home, after a few short visits he does warm up to guests and show his charming ... (Read More)side. He is also completely comfortable with quick movements from his foster mom, which is a strong sign that he will be fine once he is acclimated to his new family. In addition, he is very gentle with his foster mom's 3-year-old niece, who knows how to behave towards dogs (no pulling, etc.). Even when she runs around playing in the yard, Bandit doesn't seem scared of her at all. He does tend to bark when he is scared, as well as when he wants to play, but he has been making progress in 'Project Bark Reduction,' in which he is learning to stop barking on command. Bandit loves to learn and play training games, and with his learning he is becoming less fearful of things that have threatened him in the past. He also loves to walk (or run!) on leash, as well as running alongside his foster mom when she bikes. He will usually come when called, although he is such a devoted hunter that if he is 'on duty' (patiently waiting to ensure that the yard is clear of any intruding wildlife), it may take shaking the treat canister to get his attention. When not hunting, Bandit is usually found cuddled up on the back of the couch or on his foster mom's lap. He loves to sleep in the human bed and while not a fan of his crate, he will stay there while his foster mom is at work. Bandit's #1 house training is perfect, but his #2 reliability requires you to be vigilant to his signals requesting to be let outside. As long as you are reliable, he is too! He does fine with the two other mature dogs in his foster home, although he will sometimes growl if they walk on him (who wouldn't?) and will chase after them when they chase a ball, though he has no interest in the ball itself. Since he will probably do this with new playmates, other dogs in his new home should be confident and nonchalant enough to realize that he means no threat. Bandit truly has a gentle heart and is destined to become a faithful soulmate to a patient and understanding family...he just needs someone to give him that chance. To see more pictures of Bandit, please go to his online album at http://imageevent.com/newrattitude/bandito . ========================================================================================If you are interested in adopting Bandit, please go to New Rattitude's website at http://www.NewRattitude.org/adopt.htm, where there is detailed information and a link to our adoption application. PIease Read Before Adopting a Rat Terrier in Illinois
Rat Terrier Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Rat Terrier is a small breed of hunting dog also sometimes known as a Feist. Rat Terriers are vivacious, playful, and bold. This breed is great with children. Adult Rat Terriers adapt well to adoption. Rat Terriers are very smart and trainable. This breed can live in an apartment but needs plenty of vigorous exercise each day. Rat Terriers enjoy romping in a fenced yard, but because they are enthusiastic diggers, fences should be buried or reinforced around the base.
