Rescue Me ID: 17-03-23-00214Olive (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Just like an olive is the perfect complement to a martini, Olive is the perfect complement to a home! She's a 14 month old rat terrier pup who is sweet as can be. Olive arrived at ACL as a stray, and though she was frightened, she was always sweet. Now that she's more comfortable, it turns out our Olive is a play monster! She loves to tear around with a toy in her mouth, and she definitely wants you to throw it or tug on it. When she's comfortable, Olive is super goofy and 100% terrier puppy. She absolutely loves to cuddle and be pet, and she's clearly a dog who gets confidence and calm from being connected to her humans. She's a true rat ... (Read More)terrier - she has a TON of personality! Her adopters can expect a spunky little girl one she's comfortable. Like many terriers, she has a tendency to become overly protective of her favorite people, so her adopters need to be familiar with this instinct and help to guide her toward more appropriate behaviors. She is a little mouthy during play because she's still a pup, so she'd do best with kids 12 and up. Olive likes other dogs, but sometimes if she's feeling protective of her humans, she can change her mind. She'll do best as an only pet or with another dog who is confident and able to show a young whippersnapper like her the ropes. We do not recommend her with cats or small animals. (Less)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Well, we knows some truths here...she is really a little Darling!!! And she is just a puppy, she is just 4 months old and a bouncy 12 pounds. But as far as her breeds go we really do not know. We were told her Mama is a Rat Terrier and Dad may be a lab mix, but we also have heard there may be a cattle dog in there somewhere...so what Darlin is basically a pretty good mutt...just like the rest of us!! She is a sweet, playful, spunky and very fun loving girl. She will play all day and want to nap on my lap....ahhhh....such a cutie. But, she was adopted before and she had a family that adored her. They brought her back when she got a bit too ... (Read More)rambunctious. I understand, we have not seen it but then again we have a very busy home full of playful pals and activity. She may not be the best dog as a single dog in the home, Darlin likes to be busy and have playmates. She is THE smartest little girl, learns quickly and already knows basic commands and is almost housebroken!!! We are looking for an active family, maybe with older children, another dog would be great!! Her adoption fee is $299. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com. (Less)

This handsome and debonair fellow has been with us for a few months now, what can I say, he likes it here! Well, that is not the full story, although he seems perfectly happy the perfect person has just not come across this wonderful boy. Barry is a chihuahua, maybe rat terrier mix? He is as cute as a button(love those freckles) and a really great little guy. But, he also needs a strong person in his life. Those of you that have had hard headed little dogs in their lives know what I am talking about-LOL!! Barry is very well mannered, funny, loving and sweet, but if he thinks he can get away being less than polite then he is going to give ... (Read More)it a shot. Like many chihuahua's they need to know who is boss or they will throw their hat into the ring we have to let them know that yes, we love them, but no...they are not in charge. Barry knows this with us and is sweet and loving. His adoption fee is $150. He is just 3 years old and about 8 pounds. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com. (Less)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Handsome, charming Isaac is a stealth operator - he'll steal your hearth without you noticing! He's a 7 year old American Eskimo/terrier supermutt who arrived at ACL as a stray. He was very worried and unsure when he first arrived, and he didn't want to make friends. We knew it was an act, though, and soon found that he's a loyal, loving, tolerant dog who adores being with his people. He takes a little bit of patience to warm up to new people, but when you're in with Isaac, you're IN! His trust once earned is a permanent gift. Isaac likes dogs his size or smaller (he's about 25 pounds), and he'd enjoy being a solo dog OR a companion to an ... (Read More)already existing pet. He's a persnickety little terrier, so he'd do best with adopters 16 and up. Isaac's dream is to be the loyal companion to a quiet home who just wants a dog to go for short walks, have lots of pet time, and share their lives with. If Isaac could be the missing piece you've been looking for, please email Gabrielle at caninemanager@animalcareleague.org to schedule a meet! (Less)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We hope you like your sweets with a dash of tabasco, because that's Sammy in a nut shell! This absolutely adorable 5 year old Rat Terrier/Chihuahua is a perfect blend of sugar and spice. He arrived at ACL as a very frightened stray, but Sammy has set about winning all our hearts! He's an affectionate, low-key, social little guy who bonds tightly and loves to be cuddled. He'd really love a home with one or two people that want a constant companion to dote upon. Like many of his breed, Sammy tends to get feisty when he's frightened or unsure - it's hard to be a little squirt in a big world! For that reason, Sammy would do best in a home with ... (Read More)small dog experience. If you know what little chichis are like, you'll recognize Sammy's bluster for what it is - nerves. Once Sammy trusts you, he's your for life. He'll do best in an adult home, possibly with another small dog or even cat to hang out with. He'd do fine as an only dog, too, as long as you take him for walks, give him lots of cuddle time, and let him hide under a pillow - his favorite place to be! If you'd like to meet Sammy in person, please email Gabrielle at caninemanager@animalcareleague.org. (Less)

Rat Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Doug and Susan are a pair of adorable yet shy rat terrier siblings looking for a loving guardian. We don't what kind of situation Doug and Susan came from, but they are much more trusting of other dogs than they are of people. Doug is nine pounds and Susan is only seven pounds. They were turned into Chicago Animal Care and Control by their family. I'm assuming the family had a lot of dogs and didn't spend much time socialized them with people. So, Doug and Susan are looking for a patient dog-lover to take them under their wing for training to boost their confidence and a lot of love. They groom each other, snuggle together, and never let ... (Read More)each other out of view. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-02-00469Trixie (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

All Trixie wants for Christmas is a real home who will love and care for her forever! Trixie was dumped with her mom and siblings on a rural road and then in a no kill very rural shelter for a year with no socializing. She is shy of strangers, better in a home without children not because she's bad but because she wouldn't know how to act around them. Once she adjusted to being handled she was very easy to leash train, crate train and all around did great and has a more confident energetic personality then her 2 sisters. She tends to bark at things when she is outside or hears something, hunting dog personality. Quite when crated and in the ... (Read More)house, but would probably bark at things outside a window if she could see something. She was intimidated by our bossy cat, current on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She was heartworm negative when tested last year and has been on preventative. She's good with the dogs she is with but will be bossy with them if she can get away with it. She is dominant over her very shy, submissive sister. She really doesn't know any commands but would love someone who would like to teach her some fun tricks, and that there are other great people out there besides us. She is now almost 2 years old and weighs 28 pounds. Vet's phone number you use currently or in the past is required to adopt for a reference. We have 30 rescued dogs of all sizes all praying for a real home! Please do not consider a dog for Christmas unless you want a dog as a family member for its whole life. (Less)
