Can you believe this handsome young fella was given up to a shelter by the one and only family he had ever known because they were moving? Not only that but they were OK with him being euthanized!! Thankfully the shelter works hard to get dogs and cats and other critters into an adoption floor or a rescue to help them fine their way to a loving family. We were more than happy to take this little goober in, he is such a happy boy and fit in so well with our little crew. Todd is about 4 years old and maybe 8-9 pounds. His family had him accustomed to eating table food so he is a bit hesitant to eat what we are serving our four footed guests. But I cook for them also, who wants to eat boring kibble day after day? This week they had a stew of kale, broccoli, rice and mackerel. All healthy ingredients, and pretty cheap as well! Todd has loved running and playing with the other dogs and is thrilled to out enjoying the fresh air and exploring the yard. He has been very affectionate with us, seeks attention and is a little wiggle butt. BUT--we are told he does NOT like to be picked up. No problem, we do not pick him up. He acts like he wants to sit in our laps, but no rush here. We want him to feel totally comfortable before we go that far. That is a common mistake we see in visitors, so often they want to love on the dogs asap(of course!) but as much as you have the best of intentions that fearful dog that has been in a shelter or rescue situation does not quite understand that right away. Best to keep your hugging and face to face greeting for much further along in the relationship. Todd is very well mannered and appears totally housebroken. Naturally we take him out very frequently so he can get used to our doors, yard and schedule. He has been a delight but will need a family willing that understands this has all been confusing for him and he just needs some time to figure out who you are and what is going on. Todd's adoption fee is $225. Please email Kristine at firstname.lastname@example.org. (Less)

Energetic. Playful. Enjoys cuddling and loves attention. Macaroni is housebroken and spends most of his time indoors. He has had some vaccinations and is taken to the vet when needed. Our busy family is seeking a loving home for Macaroni a.k.a Mac.

|Rescue Me ID: 17-10-17-00095Cooper--$99! (male)|
Ok, so he is 12 years old but don't let that fool you-Cooper has a lot of vim and vigor! What a perfect combination, the spunk to keep us and go for walks and be active with his family, but the maturity to not be over the top exuberant. Cooper likes the finer things in life whether it be a brisk walk in the crisp winter air or a warm nap on a snuggly blanket, and he is not slouch when it comes time for a nice dinner! Cooper was given up by his family due to his seasonal allergies. Apparently they flare up a little in the fall and spring. He gets a little itchy but nothing to serious. We gave him a soothing bath and if it gets bad a little benadryl helps. We have many dogs with similar issues, my own bulldog is 10 x worse, thats a bulldog for you. He is a happy guy, loves his people and is doing well with the other dogs. At first he was not too happy about the rowdiness of others but has learned to accept it. He will do well in a more peaceful home than ours. He probably had a nice quiet life and does appreciate quiet times. His adoption fee is $99. Please email Kristine at email@example.com. (Less)

|Animal ID: 15-01-05-00483Doug and Sue (male)|
Doug and Susan are a pair of adorable yet shy rat terrier siblings looking for a loving guardian. We don't what kind of situation Doug and Susan came from, but they are much more trusting of other dogs than they are of people. Doug is nine pounds and Susan is only seven pounds. They were turned into Chicago Animal Care and Control by their family. I'm assuming the family had a lot of dogs and didn't spend much time socialized them with people. So, Doug and Susan are looking for a patient dog-lover to take them under their wing for training to boost their confidence and a lot of love. They groom each other, snuggle together, and never let each other out of view. (Less)

Rat Terrier Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Rat Terrier is a small breed of hunting dog also sometimes known as a Feist. Rat Terriers are vivacious, playful, and bold. This breed is great with children. Adult Rat Terriers adapt well to adoption. Rat Terriers are very smart and trainable. This breed can live in an apartment but needs plenty of vigorous exercise each day. Rat Terriers enjoy romping in a fenced yard, but because they are enthusiastic diggers, fences should be buried or reinforced around the base.
