Animal ID: 1698Andy (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Andy is a 4-year-old Rat Terrier mix who was impounded at a shelter last fall due to a severely broken leg. New Rattitude gave him a new attitude by pulling him from the shelter and getting him the surgery that he needed. Unfortunately, the surgery 'didn't take' the first time and he had to go through it again in February. The good news is that this time things went much better and he is starting to walk on the leg. He still needs to take it easy but he's on the mend and will soon be completely released from activity restriction. Andy is a great little dog who wants a pet parent that will play with him, walk him, and cuddle. If he doesn't ... (Read More)get the attention he desires, he will start requesting it by 'biting' at your shoes or slippers. He thinks it's funny, and doesn't see why his foster mom is trying to convince him to give up this bad habit from his puppyhood. Andy does pretty well on the leash but since he has been on activity restrictions during his surgery recuperation, he hasn't had the training yet to learn not to pull. But now that he has been 'released' from crate rest, he is excited to work on this skill. Due to his limited activity level over several months, he has gotten a bit chubby, and this 11-1/2 lb. fellow could stand to lose a half pound or so. That shouldn't be hard, as he does dearly love to play; his favorites are the 'chase me' game and playing with stuffed toys. Andy rides well in the car. He is house trained with a doggie door. He does well with other dogs but does not like cats, although he has finally learned to tolerate the cats in his foster home (even though he would like to give chase if his foster mom weren't so vigilant!). Andy is a sweet vocal pup when he wants something, such as dinner, but he's been learning the 'quiet' command and has been developing some patience over the past few months. He's hesitant around new people at first but warms up quickly. This handsome young fellow would love a family to call his own and hopes that you'll consider adopting him! ========================================================================================If you are interested in adopting Andy, please go to New Rattitude's website at http://www.NewRattitude.org/adopt.htm, where there is detailed information and a link to our adoption application. Animal ID: 1724Buddy (male)

Rat Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Buddy! I'm a Rat Terrier mix, just under 10 lbs. and 1 1/2 to 2 years old. I may be small, but I have a HUGE personality! I excel at play. I love having a big ol' basket of toys at my disposal and playing with my canine foster siblings. I live with two cats in my foster home, and we are friends too! In fact, I love everybody once I get to know them, though I might get a little scared and bark at first when I meet new people or dogs. In addition to my playfulness and friendliness, I'm super athletic. I can run fast as the wind and jump high. I'm always making my foster mom laugh. She says I'm a little pistol and smart as a ... (Read More)whip! I learned how to use a dog door in nothing flat. And Foster Mom loves that even though I'm a boy, I'm not into marking like my foster brothers. I squat to potty in the grass and not all over fences! I'm crate trained and travel well in a crate in the car. Since I have lots of energy and need plenty of exercise, I would love to live in an active home with a canine brother or sister who also likes to play and wrestle. If you are looking for a happy, enthusiastic little guy who loves playing with toys, going for walks, and life in general, then I'm ready to be YOUR buddy! I'll be available for adoption after March 10, but I'm accepting applications now.     MEET ELFY -- AVAILABLE! -- SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ONLY-- Elfy Philidelphy :) She's even cuter in the fur, and those ears!!! GAH! This little puppy found herself incarcerated at a local shelter a couple months ago and she was terrified to say the least. She was placed in a back kennel because staff was not able to handle her, and she remained there for a week with no visitors or volunteers to work with her. Fortunately we saw here there one day and knew we had to help, and a furbulous foster home stepped up to teach this little gal that humans aren't all that bad. She's come around nicely and is now ready to meet her forever family!! Our loving ... (Read More)terripoo (terrier x poodle) is about a year old. Her foster parents say she's very well behaved, smart as a whip and extremely responsive to training. She's also a fan of food which helps! Elfy gets along harmoniously with other dogs but seems to prefer pals somewhat closer to her size. We definitely want her to have a confident, balanced doggie playmate and cuddle buddy in her future home who will be her guide as she matures. (Canine companion required.) She's playful and energetic as a terrier puppy should be and will bark with pure joy when romping around with friends or seeing her beloved humans return. Elfy is attentive to her human guardians and although shy with new people, she warms up quickly in her home setting. She's looking for dog savvy parents who understand dog body language. She has excellent leash and car manners and loves her crate when it's chill time :) She also LOVES to snuggle with her people and hopes her family will want to snuggle with her too. Elfy's a really affectionate little girlie with a sweet disposition Doesn't she sound like a catch? Well she is!! The Elf is looking for a quiet home environment without kids. She also wants a house with a backyard for zoomies :) If you're an experienced dog family with room for a lap warmer this cold and wet winter, reach out to us today and let's get Elfy home in time for Valentine's Day! --- To view more photos and pupdates of Elfy, please visit her on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1045265588831275.1073741952.294289027262272&type=3 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-10-01-00748Fin (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This little character is Fin, a 4 year old Australian Cattledog mix. At 22 pounds, he is a small guy with mass amounts of personality! Fin is a quirky, fun guy. He LOVES his blankeys! He loves to bury himself in his blankets and pillows. He's also a goof - very wiggly and snuggly and affectionate once he gets to know you. Fin has learned a lot of house manners. He is house and crate trained. He knows sit and 'on to your bed' when it's time for the crate. He is wonderful in the car and on leash. He learns so fast that he may have learned something new by the time you are reading this. Fin likes to pause a moment before making friends. He is ... (Read More)shy but quickly bonds to his person. Whoever his new person is, they are getting a silly, handsome boy who deeply bonds to his person. With continued positive experiences with people, he will warm up more quickly. Fin is looking for a quiet home with someone who likes taking walks and cuddling on the couch. He enjoys short, casual hikes. He appreciates someone who knows that he likes a bit of space as he continues to open up to new people and experiences. He would also appreciate a home where he isn't left all day waiting for his people. In return, he shares his great smile and infectious silliness. Fin isn't a big fan of sharing. As such, a home without kids or other animals is required. He can guard his food, toys, and crate when he first gets to know someone, so it is important that his new person take it slow and work with him. His foster mom says he is definitely worth it. She says that it can be managed with the right person. Fin is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and ready to meet potential adopters in Southern CA. Out of area adopters will be happily referred to local rescues. Fin is a SoCal kind of guy and loves the weather here. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Rat Terrier in California
Rat Terrier Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Rat Terrier is a small breed of hunting dog also sometimes known as a Feist. Rat Terriers are vivacious, playful, and bold. This breed is great with children. Adult Rat Terriers adapt well to adoption. Rat Terriers are very smart and trainable. This breed can live in an apartment but needs plenty of vigorous exercise each day. Rat Terriers enjoy romping in a fenced yard, but because they are enthusiastic diggers, fences should be buried or reinforced around the base.
