Animal ID: A482003Jack (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jack is listed as RESCUE ONLY because he is frightened in the shelter environment and is in the isolation kennels where there is no public viewing. The isolation kennels at City of San Bernardino Animal Control-Shelter are full. When they have to make the tough decisions of which dogs to put down, these are the ones who go first. Dogs often are mislabeled as unfriendly or even aggressive when they're in a stressful environment like an animal shelter. Once you take them out of the kennel and let them stretch their legs and walk around the play yard, they change back to their true loving personalities. Please consider rescuing this beautiful ... (Read More)boy before the shelter solves the problem their way. For more information about Jack, please contact the shelter immediately at (909) 384-1304 and reference Animal ID# A482003. Animal ID: 1611Hughey (male)

Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Handsome Hughey, a healthy, active 8-year-old Rat Terrier weighing about 20 lbs., loves to be the center of attention. He enjoys meeting people of all ages, and though he may be shy at first, he warms up very quickly. Hughey is very energetic, requiring daily physical and mental exercise, and he's obedient and relaxed when these needs are met. He also appreciates stability and routine. He is house trained but has mild anxieties and will occasionally mark if he is alone for long periods of time or if there are other factors upsetting his routine. He does well in his crate, however, and will chill there when he has to be left alone. Hughey's ... (Read More)favorite things are riding in the car, going for walks, and hanging out with his people. He gets along with most other dogs, but he tends to be competitive for attention so would not do well with another dog that has a similar nature. He really prefers the company of people over other dogs and would be perfectly happy as an only 'child.' He does not get along with cats. Hughey would love a home with an active family that would include him in their outdoor activities and adventures. He is an intelligent, affectionate, loyal, and fun-loving guy, who is ready and eager to be a part of someone's life. Animal ID: 1609Norman (male)

Rat Terrier    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Norman! This little guy is everything that is wonderful about Rat Terriers--playful, agile, sweet, and spunky. He loves going on adventures to the beach, forest, or running trail, and if you're willing to be his tug-of-war partner, you'll have a friend for life! Once he's petered out, he'll cuddle right up to you for pets and belly rubs. Norman is 1 1/2 years old and just shy of 20 lbs. He is house trained and working on his crate training. Norman arrived from a high-kill shelter shy, scared, and anxious after his owner died, but he's now a different dog--happy and curious. With training, he's gained an amazing amount of confidence. ... (Read More)He's extremely easy to train and very sharp and eager to please-not to mention highly treat-driven! He hasn't had much experience with cats or children but gets along great with other dogs as long as they don't play too rough. Norman doesn't really care for apartment or city life. The noises and close neighbors make him nervous, so he can't help but bark to keep these scary things away. He would prefer to live in a house in a quiet neighborhood or in the country. Because he doesn't like to be left alone, he would be a great companion for someone who is home most of the day. Check out more pictures and videos of this sweet guy at http://ImageEvent.com/newrattitude/norman . Animal ID: 1596Skittles (female)

Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Precious little Skittles is a 9-lb. white-bodied 2-year-old with an adorable tri-colored face. It is hard to capture clear pictures of this sweetie pie as they all have a big blur where her tail is constantly wagging, just happy all the time. Her goals in life are to love, to be loved, and to play. This friendly girl will go up to any dog, cat, or human of any age to give a big hello and a kiss if they let her, but she may have had some scary things happen to her prior to coming into rescue since she seems always to be looking over her shoulder. Nevertheless she will become and remain trusting once she gets to know you. With other dogs, ... (Read More)though, she runs away from any sort of rough play and will cower from any kind of intimidation. One of her canine foster siblings is possessive of toys, but when Skittles can get the chance, she will take a toy outside or into another room to play with it by herself. She is as happy as can be, tossing it up, catching it, and giving it a shake. Skittles also loves to go on walks but does need some leash training as she will walk behind you most of the time. When she first came into foster care, she slept in her crate, but now she sleeps in the bed with her foster mom. She uses a doggie door to go outside to do her business and does not go potty in the house. Skittles would do very well in a home with any number of people as long as they spend time with her, respect her size, and don't play too rough with her. Because she thrives on human contact, she would not be happy in a home where she was left alone very long. She would be fine as an only dog or with other dogs who were very calm. Skittles is so excited at the thought of getting her forever home that she has her bags packed and will be ready to go just as soon as she has recovered from her upcoming spay surgery. You can see more of her at http://imageevent.com/newrattitude/skittles .=======================================================================================If you are interested in adopting Skittles, please go to New Rattitude's website at http://www.NewRattitude.org/adopt.htm, where there is detailed information and a link to our adoption application. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-29-00587Maverick (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Please read entire bio before contacting rescue. Please contact Janet Cook of the Angel's Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The preferred method of contact is by way of e-mail. Make sure you check your spam folder for an e-mail reply from the rescue. VIEW MY NEW VIDEO! LOOK FOR THE VIDEO ICON! Maverick is a young, warm and friendly three-year-old Manchester Terrier/Rat Terrier mix rescued from the South L.A. Shelter. He is a tri-colored dog, chocolate brown, tan, and white, (NOT gray - these are white markings that sometimes photograph more 'gray' looking when using a flash). He has big, expressive eyes, ... (Read More)and his ears are big and cute; one stands very straight up in the air, the other one has a slight bend. Everyone who meets him likes him and comment on how cute he is so my conclusion is that he must be must cuter in person and his personality factors in. Maverick is not just another Chihuahua type; he is actually a larger terrier, about 21 lbs. He is a great size if you do not want a tiny dog, while still having a dog on the smaller side! Maverick is an endearing dog who greets all strangers well. He enjoys the company of humans, and also other dogs, but he also has an independent side to him too. He likes to go by himself on the human bed to chill, or on the porch in the sun, but he also shares pet beds with the other dogs. He does not play interactively with other dogs, but he co-exists well with them, and other dogs seem to like him. He is a quiet companion and often just finds a pet bed to lie on in the same room that you are working in. He is crate-trained and after having a rawhide chew as a bedtime snack sleeps quietly in his crate each night. Maverick is not destructive. He never chews on anything other than his rawhides or toys. He enjoys toys and has the ability to entertain himself. Maverick is not a high maintenance dog whereby you have to be meeting his needs all of the time. He is a cool, chill dog. He is also not a barker. On seldom occasions he barks (he has a very low bark) because all of the other dogs are barking about something fun or exciting about to happen; otherwise, he is as quiet as a mouse. Maverick was saved from the shelter with a fractured hip socket (most likely due to being hit by a car), and Angel's Heart Dog Rescue raised the money for an orthopedic surgery (that occurred on Jan 16th, 2015). Maverick needs a chance with someone who understands that even a dog with a prior injury is still deserving of a loving, forever home. Few to none have inquired about Maverick and this has saddened me as a rescuer because Maverick is such a sweet dog. While Maverick will never be a running or hiking dog, he is a normal dog who can pretty much do whatever the other dogs do (see video). So if you just want an easy dog that rides well in the car, is well behaved in public, takes easy walks, goes on outings to the park, or keeps great company to you or to your already existing dog, Maverick is a great choice. He would love to have another dog in the home to hang with when folks are away from home, but he can also be an only dog in the home if he is able to also go places with you and do things on occasion too. Maverick is potty-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment) and seems to do best with free access to a yard either by way of a dog door or an open door. He is fully vetted, neutered, vaccinated, including rabies, dewormed, and also micro-chipped. Though the rescue paid a large sum helping Maverick, this does not change the standard adoption fee. If you are interested in discussing Maverick, please contact Angels Heart Dog Rescue at adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail. Please visit my website at: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com and go to the Adoption Tab to read about the adoption process and fees; thank you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-20-00461Rider (female)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Vaccinations Current

PLEASE READ THIS EAMIL!! I have a three year old shepherd/pit/terrier mix. Her name is Rider. She is extremely loving and snuggly with people of all ages, she is playful and knows all basic commands like sit, stay, lay down, and come. She also knows 'hold hands' (kind of her own version of shake), 'give me a hug', 'fetch', and 'go to bed'. Rider is house trained and Kennel trained. She absolutely loves walks but she must be walked on a pinch collar (she gets very excited! but behaves and listens with that collar). Rider has been known to catch small animals in our back yard, i.e. rabbits/ rats, she is very fast and will focus in on slightest ... (Read More)movements from fairly far away. She was rescued from a pound in San Bernardino at the age of 2 months, she is fixed and vaccinated. My boyfriend at the time got her for me after I was sexually assaulted, this girl has gotten me through many sleepless nights and helped me get my life back on track. I am in the United States Army and also currently in college and I have moved back in with family to be able to pay for school. There was recently an unfortunate incident where Rider figured out how to get out of the back yard and was running around in the neighborhood when a woman walking with two small unleashed dogs was passing our street. Rider got a hold of one of them and it ended up dying. I did not see the actual attack on the other dog but I did hear the other woman screaming. I had just gotten home so I ran outside to help her without even realizing it was because of my dog she was yelling. When I got to her, Rider had already gotten away from her and the woman was unharmed and her dog was still alive. I grabbed Rider and locked her into her kennel and ran back to check on the woman more thoroughly. Her dog was no longer alive and had started biting her after Rider and I left but they were minor cuts. I gave her my information and offered her help and she left. I have been in contact with animal control ever since. I have to go to a court hearing where they will decide if Rider is a menace and danger to society. I absolutely can not keep her where I currently live because my family thinks that she is now a liability and they do not have the bond with her that I do. I have tried all alternatives and tried to find somewhere to move or take her in, but I am running out of time, Because of animal controls involvement, I can only surrender rider to Devore Animal Shelter but I can surrender her to any rescue willing to take her. I have heard nothing but nasty things about the place and believe Rider will be mistreated and eventually killed if left there. This dog has given me a second chance and now I need to give her one. I feel terribly for the other dog and the woman who lost her pet, but I don't see any sense in killing two dogs because of one incident. Because the other dog died I have been told that i'm required to tell you she is 'animal aggressive' but I have been told by a few rescues that she sounds 'prey driven'. I don't have enough knowledge on the subject to tell you for sure, but I know this dog and wholeheartedly believe she could be trained further and be a wonderful dog to someone else. I will also pay all new licensing fees and redo her vaccinations if needed for whoever takes her in! (Less)

Rat Terrier    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations, Arthritis, Fearful/Anxious

Tuffy has been a beloved family pet since he was a few weeks old. Unfortunately, my teenager has his own severe chronic health problems and I'm a single mom trying to deal with all this on my own. We can no longer take care of Tuffy the way he deserves to be loved. He has serious dental issues due to an underbite, has a benign growth on his side, and he struggles walking upstairs to our 3rd floor apartment. He does well sleeping in a crate when we're out, and will get into the trash if left out. He's really, really sweet and loves attention. But we barely have time to even stop and pet him. I know he deserves more. Our situation is dire, and ... (Read More)Tuffy would be better off with someone who could love and comfort his in his old age. (Less)

Brandon is about 7 lbs, give or take. Great with kids! A little skiddish at times. He listens extremely well. He doesn't do many tricks. He barks when he gets nervous or scared. He was born October 31st, 2011, so just about 3 and a half years old. He doesn't bite at all. He has become very protective over my daughter. She's 18 months old. We don't want to let him go, as he is a part of the family, but we have to do what is best for him. Circumstances have become too much, and he needs a stable home.

Rat Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We have had Hunter for 9 years. He is a great dog! A few years ago my husband and I started a family. He used to be an indoor dog, but with new babies, he ended up becoming an outdoor dog. Hunter is great with our kids and other dogs; however, we don't have time to give him the love, affection, and home environment he deserves. I feel horrible because there is absolutely nothing wrong with him. I just want to give him another chance to be in a loving family environment once again. Please only contact me Mon - Fri between 7:30 am - 4:00 pm at 562-896-9340. Thank you.

Hi! I am Prieto! I'm a 3-year old loving PATTERDALE TERRIER. I am a bit shy at first, but once I know I can trust you (especially if you give me food) you will be my favorite person. I am very loving and love to play fetch! I am also crate trained, potty trained and love walks. Since I am so little (only 10 lbs) large things may sometimes overwhelm me and I ask to be picked up. I also like it when things are calm around the house so I can relax. I love to give kisses and cuddle. My previous owners were a military family that fell in love with me after fostering me, but unfortunately were moving across country and could not keep me. Will ... (Read More)you be my furever one? PIease Read Before Adopting a Rat Terrier in California
Rat Terrier Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Rat Terrier is a small breed of hunting dog also sometimes known as a Feist. Rat Terriers are vivacious, playful, and bold. This breed is great with children. Adult Rat Terriers adapt well to adoption. Rat Terriers are very smart and trainable. This breed can live in an apartment but needs plenty of vigorous exercise each day. Rat Terriers enjoy romping in a fenced yard, but because they are enthusiastic diggers, fences should be buried or reinforced around the base.
