Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Oreo is a 1yr old Rat Terrier/Heeler mix looking for a fun, active, and loving family and home. This guy is so unique! He's got the markings and face of a Heeler mix, but then has the ears and shape of a Rat Terrier. He seriously is the cutest thing. He isn't too big, and isn't too small either ... he's the perfect size! He weighs in currently and full grown at 21lbs. This guy has the personality to match his awesome look. He is so fun! He loves to play with toys, loves to fetch, loves to run in the yard, and loves to be with his people. He has not lived with other dogs, but he is good with other dogs his size or smaller (larger dogs ... (Read More)unknown). He has lived with many kids all ranging from ages 6yrs to 18yrs and loves kids. We do not suggest a home with cats due to the breed tendencies. Oreo is a smart boy who knows sit, stay, shake, and come. He is housebroken, kennel trained, and knows how to use the dog door. He is leash trained but may need a little more training with walking on one side of his owner and not all over. He rides well in the car as well. This guy would love an active home with a secure yard, with an active family that will play with him and love him forever. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and vet checked. He comes with 30 days of free pet insurance, and comes with a free vet visit as well. His adoption fee is $260. You can meet Oreo at our location Tues-Sun 11am to 6pm at 1102 W. Hatcher Road in Phoenix 85021. Please bring any current dogs or children in the home to make sure it is a good fit. On weekends, give us a call for location as some of our dogs attend off-site adoption events, 602-944-2440 (Less)

Animal ID: Buddy - A575149Buddy - Only $65!!!!! (male)

Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

BUDDY (Rat Terrier/Dachshund mix) - AVAILABLE! Only $65 adoption! We just rescued this sweetheart from the euthanasia list. The picture posted was taken at the shelter. New pictures & a more detailed adoption profile will be posted in the future as we get to know this pet if it is not adopted beforehand. PLEASE NOTE: All of the pets at Safe Haven receive basic training when they come to us. Adopters will be given a list of words that your new pet knows at the time of adoption. What each pet learns depends on how much time I have had to work with them, & if that pet has any additional issues that need to be focused on first. Additional ... (Read More)notes: - Fearful, needs to be worked with. - Please see comments on his/her post in our Facebook group to see his/her progress. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1405138936478168/ From the shelter: I came to the shelter as an owner surrender. Surrender reason: BITES MEDICAL: Appears healthy at this time. BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: In the shelter he is fearful, will approach and sniff people, backs away from hands reaching toward him. He does allow petting and will take treats from people. He takes time to warm up and would likely improve out of the shelter environment. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Buddy was surrendered to the shelter by a person who took care of him for a short time after his original owner passed away. During that time Buddy was mostly crated. He lived with other dogs and was friendly with them. Buddy was adopted and returned to the shelter for biting a friend of the owner, when the friend approached and attempted to greet the owner with a hug. Buddy bit the friend's hand defensively. Previous owner also notes that buddy does not enjoy baths and does not like to 'go' outside. Buddy may need some help with his housetraining or perhaps be a dog most suited to pad training. Birthday: 2/19/16 Weight: 15 lbs. (Buddy came in very underweight to the point that we can see his bones. Small dogs don't need much to get them to a good weight. My guess is that once we get him to the correct weight, he will not be more than 16 lbs.) Adoption fee is only $65 & includes: - Initial Vet check - Spay/Neuter surgery - Up to date on Vaccinations - Microchip - Voucher for a future Free office visit to the Vet - 50% off any Optimum Wellness Plan - 30 days of free pet insurance (in case something comes up after adoption) - Collar with ID - Harness * - Leash - Other surprise goodies from Safe Haven - Other coupons from Partners - Available Paperwork: Spay/Neuter records, Vaccination records, Vet records, Micro records, Recommendation list, etc... - Continued Support: Safe Haven will be there for the lifetime of your new adopted pet. If you ever have questions or concerns, we will always be there to help. Our goal is for you & your pet to live happily ever after! If you are interested in adopting this pet, please fill out an application http://www.adoptapet.com/Safe-Haven/adoption-application/ After we receive your application, we will contact you. ADOPTING A CAT OR DOG IS UP TO A 20 YEAR COMMITMENT! THEY ARE NOT OBJECTS THAT YOU CAN GET RID OF WHEN THEY BECOME INCONVENIENT. THEY ARE INNOCENT LIVING, BREATHING ANIMALS WITH FEELINGS THAT DEPEND ON YOU TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE CARE OF, LOVE, & PAY FOR EVERYTHING THIS PET NEEDS FOR UP TO 20 YEARS, THEN PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR AN APPLICATION. * Safe Haven STRONGLY believes that collars should only be used to hold their ID or as decoration. A dog can slip out of collar. Which becomes a problem if you are trying to restrain your dog, & it comes off. Also, attaching a leash to a collar puts pressure on the neck, which is one of the most sensitive areas of the body, & could hurt them. For these reasons, Safe Haven includes a harness with every dog adoption to ensure the safety of the dog. A harness distributes the weight on the chest & shoulders. It also has a handle on the back that you can grab if need be, without hurting your pet (EX: Dog falls off your boat, just grab the handle & pull your pet back in with no harm done. With a collar, you would have to strangle your dog when pulling your dog in). Also a dog cannot slip out of a harness if it is fitted correctly, so it is much easier to restrain them. FAQ: Q: Is this pet still available? A: Status is posted in the original post on the Facebook page for Safe Haven Animal Rescue of AZ at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1405138936478168/ . It will say the status in all caps at the very top of the pets post. Once on the Facebook page, type the pets name in the search box to easily pull up all the posts on that pet. Q: I don't see a phone #. Will someone please call me? A: Everything needed is online. I have found that online is the most efficient way to get all the work done. In the past, when I posted my #, my phone rang off the hook all day. So I spent the whole day on the phone, with not much work to show for it at the end of the day. Again, ev (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-03-21-00205Stripes (female)

Rat Terrier    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed

Stripes is a senior dog (10+) spayed, who is very affectionate, and needs some well deserved attention & care. She's a very active dog despite her age & needs someone who understands the quirks & eccentricities of Terriers/Rat Terriers. I want to disclose that while she was well loved by her elderly owner - her living situation was/is not ideal. She has been bullied by larger dogs & has not had much time dedicated towards her for exercise nor getting love - due to her owner being quite infirm & unable to keep up with any of the animals that we're now trying to re-home. As far as we know she is healthy - she has a benign tumor on her ... (Read More)shoulder, but otherwise appears in good health. Stripes knows quite a few tricks including sit, lay down, roll over & dance (I think)'| She's very attentive & knows her name well! Stripes would probably do best in a single dog household - BUT might do well with other dogs pending their temperaments. I am trying to find her a good fit so she can have a happy healthy family in her twilight years. Stripes comes with a collar, leash, hard carrier, and toys. We want her to be somewhere happy in a place where she doesn't feel threatened & bullied by bigger dogs. She deserves some peace & happiness. (Less)

We busted Thelma out of the county shelter on 12/23 with her sister Louise. She is approx 2-3 years old. She is such a snuggling sweetheart. She likes other small dogs her size. 3 weeks into her new foster family poor Thelma was picked up by an owl. Since then she has healed nicely. She is one lucky dog and would be even luckier to have you.

I'm Mr. Ripley, a 2 year old male Terrier Chirhuahua mix. I am low shed and weigh about 12 lbs full grown. I'm a very interesting looking guy who showed up as a stray. We were unable to locate my owners so I am looking for my forever home. I am very friendly and sweet. I get along well with people, but I prefer men & would do best in an adult only household. I am good with dogs of all sizes but can be a dominant male sometimes. I would love another furry friend in my home so a dog introduction is recommended. It's unknown how I am with cats. I am good in a kennel and know how to use a dog door. I'm fun and playful and would do well in any ... (Read More)type of household. Let's meet! - Adoption fee is $260. PIease Read Before Adopting a Rat Terrier in Arizona
Rat Terrier Dogs can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. The Rat Terrier is a small breed of hunting dog also sometimes known as a Feist. Rat Terriers are vivacious, playful, and bold. This breed is great with children. Adult Rat Terriers adapt well to adoption. Rat Terriers are very smart and trainable. This breed can live in an apartment but needs plenty of vigorous exercise each day. Rat Terriers enjoy romping in a fenced yard, but because they are enthusiastic diggers, fences should be buried or reinforced around the base.
